ALIBI INTERIORS:
WHAT WE DO / WHAT WE BELIEVE ETHOS & INTEGRITY We reclaim any and all found wood because we can make it beautiful again. We bring you products that make a home happy. We believe in the power of re using materials and keeping perfectly good wood out of our landfills, and we like to think that what we do helps decrease the amount of waste in our world, if even on a tiny scale (big things often have small beginnings). Paralleled with this philosophy is Alibi Interiors’ business integrity: To keep our handmade goods fairly priced and to collaborate within our community as often as possible. We love building custom farm tables for friend’s homes where wine and good conversation is shared; we enjoy trading goods with other makers and entrepreneurs to perpetuate a more connected society, we thrive on co designing wall installations for our local businesses, and simply keeping the goodness of giving alive. The foundation of our business was built on our love for each other. Perpetuating this love is the goal. DEEP SUSTAINABILITY The majority of our wood comes from weathered and torn down fences, which gives our product complete individuality. We also inherit special and occasional materials that originate from ramshackle barns, washed up boats, old floor boards, or local estate sales. All wood has been salvaged and often comes with a story. Alibi Interiors got its start building one product, the Double Frame. The Double Frame's byproduct was still very usable; not wanting to throw any of it away, we loosely designed other products around the remaining wood. Succulent boxes, shadow boxes, slimmer style frames, and almost everything else we designed was born from the remaining piles of wood. While we strive to use every piece of material we acquire, whatever is left (and only after it has been recycled 3+ times over) meets its end as kindling for our fireplace or as mulch in our garden. This is the full circle of our sustainably independent business. Operating as both a wholesale and retail business, we are often faced with the reality of unavoidable waste. This shows up in the form of bubble wrap, packing peanuts, and cardboard boxes. To diminish this waste, we’ve taken to collecting packaging supplies from local retail shops and re using it to ship orders, leaving one less footprint on our beautiful earth. INSPIRATION We live in a small cottage nestled between the ocean and the redwoods of northern California. We shop at our local farmers market on Saturdays where we trade picture frames for meat and produce. Fresh flowers and lemons from our tree adorning the table, a Chick Corea vinyl on the record player while our children run barefoot in the garden, is a very ideal and typical weekend for us. We are deeply inspired by our surroundings; the forest, the sea, and the art of slow living fuels our motivation and love for what we do and who we are. Below is a quote that is synonymous with our brand ethos, and one we feel strongly about. We hope you keep it always in mind. “Every time you spend money, you’re casting a vote for the kind of world you want.” -Anna Lappé. |
